You may be able to receive college credit for previous coursework, training, or examinations, shortening the time it will take to complete a degree. Ready to put your experience to work? These programs offer opportunities to earn credit for what you already know:
Early Childhood Education

Fire Science
Train for life-saving careers in fire service with coursework combining technical knowledge and hands-on skills.

Students may be awarded up to 30 semester hours of credit (this is the maximum that may be applied to a degree) through any combination of the following assessments.
Students who plan to transfer after MCC should be aware that acceptance of credit for prior learning varies from institution to institution. Consider discussing these credit options with your MCC advisor:
- Credit by Examination
MCC awards college credit to students who earn acceptable scores on the following standardized subject exams: Official score reports must be submitted for evaluation; visit the College Board.
- Credit for Military Learning
The Joint Services Transcript (JST) documents the professional military education, training, and occupation experiences of service members and veterans. The American Council on Education (ACE) collaborates with the U.S. Department of Defense to review military training and experiences and recommend appropriate college credits. Credit may be awarded based on ACE recommendations. For more information on JST, please visit, Request Official Joint Services Transcript and choose ‘continue to this website’.
- Credit for Prior Learning Portfolio
Credit for prior learning can be earned via a portfolio review illustrating how the experience correlates with course objectives. MCC requires the student to prepare a portfolio documenting relevant information on experiences and background and then have a conference with an appropriate division dean. The instructor and the appropriate academic dean will determine the student's eligibility for credit. View Credit for Prior Learning Portfolio course list »
- Credit for Workplace Learning
MCC awards college credit for specific industry, national, and state certifications. Consider discussing these credit options with your MCC advisor or Department Chair:
- Computer Information Systems
- Construction Management
- Criminal Justice
